Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines the use of psychotherapy and hypnosis. As the name suggests, it’s a therapy that focuses on solutions for the future, rather than analysing the past. It’s an understanding of where we now, having a vision of where we want to be and then making the necessary changes to achieve it.
Solution Focused Therapy incorporates aspects of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), combined with an up to date understanding of how the brain works. It is these factors that make the therapy so effective in making positive changes, in a relatively short period of time.
Hypnosis or ‘trance’ is often described as a sleep-like state. In fact, it’s more a state of focussed attention. Trance is a very natural and relaxing state, which we all experience in our everyday lives. Driving, reading a good book or being engrossed in a good film are all examples of trance.
It is in this relaxing and safe state, that the mind is more responsive to suggestion. We are able to gain access to the unconscious mind to change unhelpful thought processes and patterns of behaviour. Clinical hypnotherapy is not the same as stage hypnosis. You are in complete control.
